Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Agra, India. The Agra Fort, also known as the “Lal –Qila”, “Fort Rouge” or “Qila-i-Akbari”, is the highlight of the city, then capital of the Mughal Sultanate . It is the symbol of power, strength and resilience, as it stands today in full glory. Agra Fort built by Akbar in Red Sandstone when he was through with the consolidation of his power after accession to power in 1654, Agra Fort worked both as a military strategic point as well as the royal residence.
The Itimad-ud-Daula’s Tomb is situated on the left bank of river Jamuna next to Chini-ka-Rauza. Itimad-ud-Daula was the title given to Mirza Ghiyath Beg, father of Nur Jahan. He held the post of Lord of treasure of the empire and later rose to the dignity of wazir under Jahangir. Nur Jahan completed the construction of the building of the Tomb of her father in 1628 AD, nearly 7 years after his death. It is nicknamed the Baby Taj, the exquisite tomb of Mizra Ghiyas Beg and a famous Attraction Point at Agra and should not be missed. The walls are made up from white marble from Rajasthan encrusted with semi-precious stone decorations
Jama Masjid (Mosque) in Agra is opposite the Agra fort. The Jama Masjid is also popularly known as the "Friday Mosque". It is one of the largest mosques in India. The Mosque was built by Mughal emperor, Shahjahan in 1648 and dedicated to his favourite daughter, Jahanara Begum. There was a spacious, octagonal Tripolia Chowk which existed between the Jama Masjid and the Delhi gate of the Agra Fort.
